For example, one of your future guests may love bright colors, while another despises them. Therefore, your best bet is to consider the advice of designer Daniel Friedman. He says, “To accommodate a range of guests and personalities, it’s essential that the guest room remain neutral in color, while mixing furniture from different styles in an organic but clutter-free arrangement.”

Daniel has a knack for turning what I can only describe as gawd-awful into bright and homey spaces anyone would love to spend time in…and he does it with hardly a budget and what looks like a ton of hard work. Plus, he has creativity up the wazoo. Below are some of projects with before and after photos (my fav!) and some of his DIY projects.

We just love Daniel’s white rooms with sparks of color, ideally placed. He’s a master of taking a scary space and making it white, calm, and happy again. His sparing use of color is beautiful. We thought he’d be an amazing interior designer to answer our reader questions.

A couple weeks ago, Daniel submitted a living room redesign, and it was a huge hit, especially the work he did to transform the plain windows into this beautiful paned version. Daniel was kind enough to offer a tutorial on how to recreate the wooden panes. As it turns out, with just a little patience and precision, you can have these windows in no time! Here’s the scoop from the designer himself. Thanks for sharing, Daniel!

Have an icky space you have no idea how you’ll ever turn into the modern palace of your dreams? Daniel Friedman would know what to do. He’s been shaping up boring, mundane and almost-offensive-they’re-so-ugly homes and apartments in the Tri-State Area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut and turning them into modern, lovely spaces that make you go “How’d he do that?!”

This Before & After project provides a great example of the power of neutrals in creating an elegant, modern and bright space. I appreciate that Daniel decided not to shy away from mixing patterns, and lots of them. He’s done a great job giving each room in the home a unique feel, while also avoiding overwhelming the small space with too much clutter. Lovely work, Daniel!
